Swift Verruca Treatment

How long has your verruca been there? A month? A week?  We usually find when we ask this question our patient replies "No! Years!"
The problem is, not every treatment you try at home is successful.  You're not trained to treat feet ( that's our job!), so don't feel disappointed that you haven't been able to get rid of it yourself.  Some verrucae are large and unsightly, but not painful.  Others are very painful and cause discomfort with every step.
There are a lot of treatment options out there, and up until recently most of them have involved applications of acids or freeze sprays to try to destroy the verruca tissue.  But now we have another treatment option!
We are very pleased to announce that from February 2018 we will be able to offer Swift treatment of verrucae (warts of the foot).  This is a
breakthrough treatment which allows Podiatrists to treat verruca's without the use of anaesthetics, acids or cryotherapy (freezing).
There are no bandages, no need to take time off of school or work and no painful chemicals applied to the skin!

Take a look at the video below to learn a little more about how we can help you treat your verruca.

WHAT IS SWIFT®?
Swift is a new technology, developed in the UK, which has been licenced for the general treatment of skin lesions in Podiatry and Dermatology.
Swift uses microwave energy which is delivered through a special probe applied to the skin to treat the affected tissue.

DOES IT HURT?
Like many treatments for skin lesions, some minor discomfort may be experienced. Before treatment your podiatrist may decide to reduce the
lesion with a blade. Pain levels vary from person to person but most people undergoing Swift liken it to a pain similar to an injection or a scratch,
lasting 2 - 3 seconds then quickly subsiding.

WHAT CAN I DO AFTER TREATMENT?
In some cases the treated area may feel sore but will not prevent you undertaking normal daily activities.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
This is dependent on how you respond to treatment. In some cases, you may need more than one treatment (these can be from 14 days to over
a month apart depending on the response). Your Podiatrist will be able to discuss this with you.

CAN ANYONE RECEIVE THIS TREATMENT?
With a few exceptions, most people with skin lesions would be able to have this treatment. Your Podiatrist will carry out an assessment prior to
treatment and be able to advise you on this.

More about this treatment:

Microwave energy is widely used in a number of medical fields to elevate tissue temperatures and create precise, localised cell destruction.
Infected tissue can exist several millimetres below the surface and can often be difficult to treat using traditional methods,
resulting in either untreated tissue or significant damage.

Swift delivers a precise, highly controlled energy dose. As microwaves travel into the tissue, water molecules begin colliding and creating
localised heat energy– quickly destroying all infected tissue within a predetermined depth.

In just seconds the treatment is complete, leaving the body to absorb and replace the treated tissue.
